photo of Tom Schultz

Tom Schultz, co-founder and Chief Scientist, is the inventor of the company's core knowledge representation solution. The pioneering technology Tom developed features incremental maintenance of the transitive closure for directed acyclic graphs and semantic networks. A sophisticated modeling layer uses the transitive closure to implement a soft schema, providing relational support for OOP concepts such as classes, objects, inheritance, and polymorphism. This foundation enables the sophisticated subsumption, inference, polymorphic, and path queries that drive Park Street’s clinical query and analytics capabilities.

Earlier in his career, Tom worked at Bell Laboratories for 18 years as a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff, designing and developing software in the fields of computer-aided engineering and project/process management. Tom has an M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, Ontario and a B.S. degree in Applied Math & Physics from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Tom is also an adjunct professor at Lewis University teaching accelerated nighttime courses in math and computer science.
